About Yard Bean

The Story Behind Yard Bean

The idea for Yard Bean came to me one Saturday morning, out of equal parts frustration and inspiration.

I’d woken up early, coffee in hand, determined to hit a few local yard sales. The problem? I couldn’t find any. I searched social media, scanned community forums. I even drove around the neighborhood hoping to spot a hand-painted sign on a telephone pole. After an hour of circling and second-guessing, I finally stumbled upon a sale—just in time to see someone walking away with the vintage record player I would’ve grabbed in a heartbeat.

On that ride home, the thought hit me: Why is finding a simple yard sale so difficult in a world where you can order food, book a ride, or buy a couch with just a few taps on your phone?

That’s when the seed for Yard Bean was planted.

The name started as an inside joke. I pictured a tiny green bean in a big yard full of secondhand treasures—quirky, useful, oddball finds. It made me smile. So I kept it.

I wasn’t a developer by trade, but I knew enough to sketch out a basic website that let people list and find yard sales easily, right in their own communities. Nothing fancy—just a clean, searchable map, some photos, and good old-fashioned details like dates and times.

Today, Yard Bean is more than just a listing website—it’s a little celebration of community, clutter, and connection. It reminds me that something small, like a missed yard sale, can sometimes spark something big.
